Luncheon planned

Second Christian Church will hold its Christian Women's Fellowship Luncheon Saturday at 4 p.m. at the community center at 416 Sumans Ave.

The Rev. Alma Stanford of Zion Baptist Church will be the guest speaker.

Musical selections will be performed by the Stanford Family and the Second Christian Youth Choir.

Shared birthdays

Grace Snively will be celebrating her 96th birthday July 29.

And also, be sure to say happy birthday to Pastor Leroy Jackson, Ebenezer AME Church, who shares the day with her and will be celebrating his 67th birthday on Wednesday, too.

Happy birthday, Mrs. Grace Snively (Aunt Grace to most of us) and Pastor Leroy Jackson. May you both be blessed beyond measure on your special day.


Library seminar to be held Aug. 6

Yard sale

On Saturday, Aug. 1, Second Christian Church, 65 W. North Ave., will sponsor a Community Appreciation Day with a yard sale.

Health fair set for Aug. 8

The Walnut Street Community Health Center's sixth annual Health Fair will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be free health screenings, including blood pressure, random blood sugar, total cholesterol, PSA, breast exams, depression and anxiety screenings, foot exams, skin damage screening and more.

And remember to bring the children as there will be plenty of activities for them such as a firetruck, face painting, balloons, fingerprinting and games.

In addition, there will be health and community service vendors on hand.

Refreshments will be provided.

The event will be held rain or shine.

Summer reading contest continues

There's still a few weeks left to be a winner in the Adult Summer Reading Club drawing at Washington County Free Library.

Be sure you have completed your book review and drop it in the contest box at the library until Aug. 13.

Prizes are drawn each Friday.
