Open for business

The Halfway area just keeps growing. A new department store has moved into Halfway. Ross Department Store, at 17155 Cole Road next to Kohl's, has opened for business. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Cinemas to host G-Force Fun Day

Valley Mall Regal Cinemas will hold G-Force Fun Day on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.

The Disney movie "G-Force" will be shown and there will be activities for children, including a demonstration from Premier Karate School, moon bounce, face painting and make your own tie-dye shirt (bring your own T-shirt).


Games and prizes are also planned. Pets from the shelter will be on hand. The event is free.

Summer concert series

The Music by the Lake summer concert series continues Saturday at the City Park band shell with a performance by Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition. The concert will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Poolside splash planned at Snook Park

A poolside splash is planned Thursday, Aug. 6, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Martin L. "Marty" Snook Memorial Park in Halfway.

The pool will be open to all special population individuals, family members, friends and caregivers. Registration is required to assure the proper amount of lifeguards will be on hand. Those interested in attending can call 240-313-2808. Admission costs $3.50 and can be paid at the pool the evening of the swim.

'Antebellum Hagerstown'

Jonathan Hager House and Museum in City Park will hold "Antebellum Hagerstown" - the story of prewar Hagerstown as told by the newspaper reporters of the time - Thursday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m.
