SMITHSBURG - Roy E. Loughridge, 77, of Blue Mountain Estates, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 10, 1932, in Moatsville, W.Va., he was the son of the late John E. and Ota E. (App) Loughridge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emmeline Mable Bell (Thomson) Loughridge, July 19, 2003.

He was a graduate of Kasson High School.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952.

He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft, Mack Trucks, Jones Gas, Horn's Heating & A/C and Horst Milk Transport, all of Hagerstown. He retired from the Greensburg Transfer Station.


He is survived by daughters, Anna M. Babcock and husband Glen of Meyersdale, Pa., and Deborah L. Foltz and husband Curtis of Smithsburg; son, William A. "Bill" Loughridge and wife Barb of Smithsburg; sisters, Loretta Bowers of Hagerstown and Lorraine Myers of Annapolis; brothers, Carl Loughridge of Colliers, W.Va., and Lorn Loughridge of Kingwood, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Juanita Auvil and E. Jean Lewis, and brothers, Ellis Loughridge and Harold Loughridge.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 24, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park of Hagerstown with Pastor Robert V. Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
