Boonsboro family pulls together - on tractors

SHARPSBURG -- Tara Moore has been around tractor pulling all of her life, and Wednesday night she participated in the Washington County tractor pull at the Washington County Ag Expo and Fair.

"My dad's been pulling since he was 16," said Moore, 22, of Boonsboro. "So I started driving six years ago."

She said the pool of female tractor pullers is a small one.

"That's what attracted me to it," she said. "There are a couple of girls throughout the East Coast that drive, and I wanted to be one of them."

Besides the obvious family ties that come with tractor pulling for Moore, it's the competition and the adrenaline rush that make this sport so exciting for her.

"I'm the youngest and the only female in my class," Moore said. "I love to compete."

Moore drives her father's tractor, The Agitator, during the events. Her brother Davey Moore, 27, is in her class.

"My brother just got his own tractor," Tara Moore said.

'One Moore Deere' stood out in white and yellow on the side of the big green tractor.

"I made my first pull at the Ag Expo," Davey Moore said. "Pulling is like a drug. You're addicted to it."

The Moores usually spend every weekend during the summer going to tractor pulls.

"We pull 25 to 30 times a summer," Davey Moore said. "Right now, both of our tractors are in the top five of our division."

Even with the gloomy skies, Davey Moore said the night's show should be a good one.
