MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- PetSmart is inviting Martinsburg-area pet owners to its grand opening celebration Saturday at The Commons shopping center off Apple Harvest Drive near Martinsburg.

"It's an event for the whole family," company spokeswoman Jessica Douglas said Tuesday. "Not many places offer pet invitations, too."

The 20,346-square-foot store will employ 25 to 30 full- and part-time employees, Douglas said.

Doors open at 9 a.m. Saturday and the store will be giving away gift cards and store products as part of a weekend celebration.

The store will feature a grooming salon for dogs and cats and pet training by an accredited trainer, Douglas said.

The grand opening of the store comes one day before a Target store, The Commons' largest tenant, will celebrate its grand opening after offering an exclusive shopping opportunity this week for newly hired team members and other VIP guests.

Target is expected to be about 128,000 square feet and include a Starbucks coffee shop, pharmacy and enhanced food section, Target spokesperson Anna Anderson has said.

Anderson said the general merchandise store created 135 jobs.
