CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- A boy who fell into a pool last week in Jefferson County has died, police confirmed Monday.

Christopher Steven Pace, 3, of Conestoga Estates subdivision near Harpers Ferry, W.Va., was pronounced dead about 6 p.m. Saturday at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., a Jefferson County Sheriff's Department deputy said Monday.

"It does appear to be accidental," Cpl. S.M. Holz said of the child's death. An autopsy was conducted, but Holz said he was still awaiting complete results to complete the death investigation.

Pace reportedly fell into a backyard swimming pool Thursday afternoon and later was found by his mother.

Holz said the child's parents were "distraught" at the home when he arrived to investigate.

Rescue officials who responded to the home about 3:30 p.m. indicated the boy was not breathing and did not have a pulse, according to emergency officials.

The child was stabilized at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va., then flown to the Falls Church hospital, Holz said.

He was the son of Steven and Christine Pace.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Harvest Pointe Community Church in Charles Town, W.Va. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christopher Pace Family Memorial Fund, c/o Gary Shepard, P.O. Box 959, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.
