TOWSON, Md. - Patrick A. Connors graduated magna cum laude from Towson University with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

He will return in the fall to continue his graduate studies in experimental psychology.

While at Towson, Patrick was on the dean's list and also a member of the Psi Chi Honor Society and the Golden Key International Honor Society.

He is a 2005 graduate of Smithsburg High School.

He is the son of Jim and Terri Connors of Smithsburg and the grandson of Don and Darlene Korrell of Myersville, Md., and Shirley and the late Gerard Connors of Wheaton, Md.




SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. - Katie Hutzell, a student at Shepherd University, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester.

Katie is majoring in biology with a concentration in aquatic systems and environmental science.

To be named to the dean's list, a student must maintain a 3.4 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale for the semester. Katie's grade-point average is 3.96.

Katie also has been recognized as a student ambassador for the People To People International Society and holds membership in the Alumni Society, the national dean's list and the Editor's Choice Award for outstanding achievement.

Katie also has received her certification as a pharmacy technician through the Pharmacy Technician School.

Katie is a 2006 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

She is the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Hutzell of Hagerstown.




WINCHESTER, Va. - Kevin Brashears of Hagerstown, who majors in business administration in the Harry F. Byrd Jr. School of Business at Shenandoah University, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester.

Kevin was a member of the Hornets baseball team that won the school's first regional title, where he was named Most Outstanding Player. The team advanced to the Division III World Series, where it finished in fifth place in the country. He was named to the USA South Academic All-Conference team for the 2008-09 school year.




LYNCHBURG, Va. - Amy C. Landsman of Boonsboro has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Lynchburg College.

Amy, who will be a junior in the fall, is majoring in elementary education with a minor in English. She is a member of the Westover Honors Program at the college.

Amy, the daughter of Jerry and Cathy Landsman, is a 2007 graduate of Boonsboro High School.




PITTSBURGH - Erin Gantz has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Carnegie Mellon University.

She is a 2006 graduate of Boonsboro High School.

She is the daughter of Paul and Tammy Gantz of Hagerstown.




TOWSON, Md. - Katie Harne of Keedysville has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Towson University. She also made the dean's list last fall.

Katie is pursuing her degree in elementary/special education.

Katie is the daughter of Jack and Karen Harne.




CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Sarah E. Macht, daughter of Harold and Barbara Macht of Hagerstown, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Washington College.

Sarah is a senior with a double major in chemistry and psychology. She is a 2006 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

She is employed this summer by the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Md.




KEYSER, W.Va. - Samantha Spencer of Sharpsburg was one of 19 students inducted into the Sigma Phi Omega Honor Society this spring at Potomac State College of West Virginia University.

The society was founded in 1923 by the faculty to honor the academic and campus participation of students.

She also was named to the provost's list for the spring semester.

She is the daughter of Bill and Sandy Spencer of Sharpsburg.

She is a sophomore majoring in agronomy.

She is a resident assistant as well as a member of the 4-H and Agriculture and Forestry clubs.




ERIE, Pa. - Walter M. Taylor, formerly of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Fayetteville, Pa., graduated from Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, at the May 16 commencement ceremony.

Taylor, who lives in Erie, received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering technology.

Taylor is employed by LORD Corp,, an aerospace technology company, in quality engineering.

While at the school, he served as president of the Ski Club.

He is the son of Timothy and Margaret Uhrich Taylor of Erie. The Taylors previously lived in Franklin and Fulton counties.




NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Bret Marfut of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Christopher Newport University.

He is a graduate of Smithsburg High School.




SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury University student-athlete Michael Marfut has been named to the 2009 All-Capital Athletic Conference team for men's track and field.

He is a graduate of Smithsburg High School.




BLACKSBURG, Va. - The following Washington County residents graduated May 15 from Virginia Tech:

Caleb Burch of Hagerstown, who received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the College of Engineering.

James Jarrett of Hagerstown, who received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the College of Engineering.
