Patterson recognized for 50 years
of service to Kiwanis Club



The Hagerstown Kiwanis Club recently recognized Raymond Patterson for 50 years of service to the organization.

Patterson started with the Suburban Kiwanis Club in 1959 and served in a number of capacities, including president.

Club President Michael Gardner surprised Patterson with the award at the July 2 meeting, presenting him with a plaque and noting that this is an exceptional accomplishment that is rarely seen.

He thanked Patterson for his years of service and dedication to the community.

TOPS 77



TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 77 presented awards for the month of June at its last meeting.

Weight loss winners for the month were Angie Youngblood and Elsie Horst. They also had perfect attendance with no gains. KOPS (Keep off Pounds Sensibly) winners for the month were Dina Norris and Darla Hartley. The Shining Stars were Pat Horning and Trudy Heather. Janice Frye won the Get-R-Done award for the week with a 5 1/2-pound loss.

Kathy Freese will lead this week's program.

The group meets at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown.

The meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

St. Maria Goretti High School will hold a new uniform sale Tuesday from 1 to 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Outdoor concert set for Saturday



St. Ann Catholic Church, at 1525 Oak Hill Ave. in Hagerstown, will host a free outdoor concert by Brass Express on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on the lawn in front of the church.

Brass Express is a group of five brass instrumentalists who recently performed on Maryland Public Television. They offer a varied program of music from several traditions.

Bring your folding chairs and a picnic supper and join family and friends for an evening of "toe tapping tunes."

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 446 had another net loss at its July 15 meeting.

The group talked about never giving up at its last meeting. Angie was the best loser with a 6 1/4-pound loss. Mary will lead the next meeting.

The group meets Wednesdays at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road in Hagerstown. Weigh-in begins at 8:45 a.m. and the meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. For more information, call Tom or Mary at 301-797-2547, or Judy at 301-739-9279.

Movie 'Time Changer' to be shown



Washington Square United Methodist Church will show a free movie Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The movie is called "Time Changer," a science-fiction story about how decisions in the present might affect the future.

Light refreshments will be served after the movie. Free parking is available behind the church.

The church is at 538 Washington Ave. (parking lot entrance off Franklin Street).
