Clear Spring High announces awards

The valedictorians and salutatorian of the class of 2009 at Clear Spring High School are: Korey Atherton, valedictorian; Amber Keck, valedictorian; and Amy Poet, salutatorian.

Graduation awards

The Clear Spring Lions Club Scholarship is presented to a member of the graduating class who plans to continue his/her education. The scholarship is determined by the Lions Club. The recipients are Lauren Belt, Robert Hockenbury, Joshua Hoffman, Adam Lipella and Allen Mackey.

The George A. Sites Memorial Award, sponsored by the Clear Spring High School Alumni Association, is presented annually to honor the student who exhibits outstanding qualities of academic excellence, personal development and leadership. The award is in memory of George A. Sites, the founder and first principal of Clear Spring High School. The recipient is Emily Pinkham.

The Walter Peterman Memorial Award, sponsored by the Clear Spring High School Alumni Association, is presented in honor of local educator Walter Peterman. The scholarships recognize graduates who excel in the fields of music and science. The recipients are Lindsay Stine (music) and Amber Keck (science).

The Town of Clear Spring Mayoral Scholarship is awarded to students who live within the corporate boundaries of Clear Spring. The recipients are Brian Bussard and Erika Henson.

The Mason B. "Mace" Mundey Award is awarded by the Town of Clear Spring on behalf of Mason Mundey's family. The recipient is Lindsay Trumpower.

The Pauline E. Forsyth Award is given to a graduate who has attained at least a 2.0 grade-point average. The recipient is Nevin Harshman.

The Outstanding Agriculture Student Award is presented to a senior boy or girl who has contributed the most to the agricultural program at the high school. The recipient is J.D. Repp.

The Samuel Shields Secrest Agriculture Award is awarded annually by the Secrest family to a member of the senior class who has been an active member of the agriculture program. The recipient should possess the following qualities: Strong work ethic, dedication to the agriculture program, high moral values and a determination to succeed in the agriculture field. The recipient is Adam Lipella.

The Frank (Cotton) Zimmerman Award is awarded annually by the Zimmerman family to a member of the senior class who has been an active member of the History Club. The recipient is Christian Ernst.

The Natasha R. Henson Memorial Award is presented by the Henson family to a graduate pursuing a career in the health field. The recipient is Katelyn Blickenstaff.

The Misses Lizzie and Ella Snyder Award, presented by the Leonard P. Snyder Fund, is given to a graduating senior who has been accepted in a college program leading to a bachelors degree. The recipient is Amber Keck.

The Cornelius K. Snyder Award, presented by the Leonard P. Snyder Fund, is given to a graduate of Clear Spring High School. The recipient is Amy Poet.

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 222 Scholarship Award is presented to graduates who plan to further their education. The recipients are Andrea Baum, Kerrington Gray and Adam Lipella.

The Clear Spring High School Scholarship is presented by the Andrew Michael family, and is given to a graduating student who has been accepted at a college or university of his or her choice and who has met the following qualifications: Character, honor, truth, scholarship and good social and moral values. The recipient is Josh Green.

The Nora and Theodore Snyder History Award is given to a student of history who plans to continue his or her education. The recipient is Zachery Repp.

The Wilson Ruritan Club Scholarship is given to students who plan to attend Hagerstown Community College. The students must possess a good work ethic, character, excellent attitude and community responsibility. The recipients are Missie Grove and Amanda Mills.

The Baccalaureate Award is given by the Clear Spring Ministerium to a graduate who has not received any other financial assistance in pursuit of higher education. The recipients are Elizabeth Andrews, Loudan Hoosier, Joshua Kehr, Kirstie McMurray and Lori Porter.

The Award of Merit is given by a member of the community who wishes to remain anonymous. The award is given to a graduate chosen by a faculty committee. The recipients are Korey Atherton, Adam Bright, Kyle Downs, Kelsey Hovermale and Curtis Ridenour.

The Clear Spring Elementary PTA Scholarship is presented to a senior girl or boy who has previously attended Clear Spring Elementary School. The recipient is Brittany Smetzer.

Conococheague Elementary School Scholarship is given to a graduate who attended Conococheague Elementary School who has demonstrated high academic achievement and good character. The recipient is Kelsey Hovermale.

The Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 Auxiliary honors a student who wrote an essay regarding the scholarship. The recipient is James Mills.

The Pearl Ernst Scholarship is awarded to a hardworking and dedicated senior who plans to attend HCC. The recipient is Amber Dressler.

The Debbie Henson and Wyatt Demmons Scholarship is given in memory of teacher Debbie Henson and in honor of her grandson, Wyatt Demmons. The recipient for this scholarship is Lindsay Mills.
