MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Lester Allan (Bub) Steiner, 86, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Thursday, July 16, 2009, at his home in Myrtle Beach.

Born Sept. 22, 1922, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Russell G. "Dutch" and Dora Burton Steiner.

He was a member of the Hancock Untied Methodist Church.

He was a 1942 graduate of Hancock High School.

One of the original founders of the Hancock Little League, he was very active in local sports programs, and played both soccer and baseball.


He served as a town councilman for Hancock from Jan. 26, 1987, until moving to Myrtle Beach in 1989.

After 43 years of service as department superintendent for the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corp. in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he retired in 1986.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Shives Steiner, and one daughter, Felicia Jean Steiner King, both of Myrtle Beach; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Alan King of Fort Worth, Texas, and David Gregory King of Myrtle Beach; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Aaron G. Steiner and Jack Steiner; and one sister, Anna Lucille Steiner Ruppenthal.

Services will be Tuesday, July 21, at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md. Pastor Jack Hiles will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, Md.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
