Pena's gem wasted by Suns in loss

July 17, 2009

Hagerstown Suns starter Hassan Pena pitched six scoreless innings, but the Asheville Tourists scored a run in the seventh and another in the eighth against the Suns' bullpen to pull out a 2-1 victory on Friday night in a South Atlantic League game at Municipal Stadium.

James Cesario homered off Patrick McCoy with one out in the seventh to pull Asheville into a 1-1 tie.

In the eighth, Scott Robinson led off with a single against Justin Phillabaum. Robinson stole second, went to third on a throwing error by catcher Derek Norris and scored on a wild pitch.

Hagerstown broke a scoreless tie in the fifth. Michael Guerrero and James Keithley led off the inning with singles. After a failed sacrifice bunt attempt by Chris Curran led to Goerrero being forced out at third, Charlie Fermaint walked before Stephen Lombardozzi's sacrifice fly to left scored Keithley.

Pena allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out five.
