Bike night organizer says bring the kids

WILLIAMSPORT -- Organizer Bruce Logan is billing Williamsport Bike Nite 2009 as "family friendly," with a Moonbounce and clowns for the kiddies and plenty of chrome toys for grown- ups.

"We didn't want to have an image of a hardcore, biker-type thing," said Logan, the event's founder and owner of Highway Song Leather & Accessories, a shop that sells biker gear in Williamsport.

This is the second year for Bike Nite, set for Saturday in downtown Williamsport. Like the first event, Bike Nite is still for charity.

Money raised from the event will go to the Abilities Network, a nonprofit that advocates for people with disabilities, and the Williamsport Food Bank.

Last year, the event raised $500 for the Abilities Network and $600 for the food bank.

But unlike the first Bike Nite, Logan said there will be more things to do.

This year, there will be bikes and gear from Savage Cycles, a Frostburg, Md.-based business specializing in custom choppers. And there will be a children's area in the parking lot of Tony's New York Pizza on Salisbury Street.

Williamsport town officials say they are bracing for a crowd larger than last year's 3,000 attendees and 900 bikers.
