Bake sale to be held

The Tri-State Community Health Center's Booster Club will hold a bake sale Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the office at 130 W. High St. Proceeds will benefit the club's community service projects. All baked goods are being made and donated by the office staff. The menu includes cakes, pies, cookies, fudge, candy and country ham sandwiches.

Vacation Bible school winding down

The "Crocodile Dock" Vacation Bible school at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church comes to a close Thursday night.

The event, coordinated by Tracy Salvagno, ends its run with a picnic supper for all participants in the front courtyard at 6 p.m. Classes will follow for all ages, and an outdoor communion service conducted by the Rev. Allan Weatherholt and the Rev. Steven McCarty will conclude the festivities.


Children and parents from the community have been enjoying this week of learning and fellowship at the historic 174-year-old church at Church and High streets.

Picnic planned Sunday

The Hancock Historical Society homecoming picnic and meeting is set for Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the pavilion at Joseph Hancock Park on West Main Street.

Interested persons from the community are invited to join members of the society for the event. Participants are asked to bring a food item to share. Meat, beverages and paper products will be provided. Call Jackie Flowers at 301-678-6041 or 717-294-3597 to register your attendance.

Photo Club

The Hancock Area Photo Club meets Sunday at 5 p.m. in the Parish Hall at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church at Church and High streets.

The deadline is approaching for submissions for the 2009 Hancock Photo Contest.

Sports banquet

Several Hancock and other area citizens will be honored by the Washington County Sports Hall of Fame at a banquet Saturday at the Hagerstown Elks Lodge on Robinwood Drive.

Todd and Linda Ruppenthal are receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award. The Franklin "Wimp" Hamburg Scholarship is being awarded to Shawanda Wills and Bethany Bowman.
