Suns make Drive take a late dive

July 15, 2009

After six straight home losses to start the South Atlantic League's second half, the Hagerstown Suns finally got back in the win column at Municipal Stadium with an eighth-inning rally for a 5-4 victory over the Greenville Drive.

Facing Greenville reliever Mitchell Herold, Michael Guerrero singled with two outs to start the rally. Chris Curran followed with a single before Steve Lombardozzi doubled to right to score both runners for the lead.

The rally gave Suns reliever Brad Peacock the victory. Peacock came on in the sixth and threw four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out six.

Greenville scored two runs in the first and two more in the third, roughing up Hagerstown starter Trevor Holder. In the first, Zach Gentile's single and RBI doubles by Ryan Lavarnway and Kade Keowen did the damage. In the third, Gentile singled, Lavarnway hit another RBI double and singles by Keowen and Ryan Dent led to another run.

The Suns manufactured a run in the bottom of the first. Lombardozzi struck out but reached on a passed ball. He went to second on a groundout, and after Tyler Moore was hit by a pitch, Lombardozzi raced all the way home on a fielder's choice grounder to short with Moore out at second.

Hagerstown cut the lead to 4-3 in the fourth. Robby Jacobsen singled, James Keithley hit an RBI double and Guerrero tripled to center to score Keithley.
