Mr. Nathan D. Babb, Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, July 6, 2009.

He was the beloved son of Dennis and Jean Babb.

Born July 23, 1977, Nathan spent his childhood in the New Market and Mount Airy areas. He was involved in the Boy Scouts, Babe Ruth baseball leagues, and numerous bands and orchestras.

Nathan earned the rank of Eagle Scout while active in Boy Scout Troop 268, during and after which he volunteered more than 1,000 hours of community service in Maryland and the Southern Rocky Mountains. He also worked two summers as a ranger at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

He performed several years in the Browningsville Cornet Band, and played trombone and tuba for the marching band and orchestras at Linganore High School, where he graduated in 1995. Nathan also was selected and performed in high school All-County and All-State bands, and played tuba in college bands. During one summer, he traveled through Europe, playing tuba with the Sound of America.


He was a member of Montgomery United Methodist Church, Damascus, Md., and performed in the church's brass ensemble.

He attended college at Bucknell and the University of Alaska.

Nathan worked as the store manager of a Domino's Pizza outlet in Frederick, Md. He enjoyed reading, team bowling and fishing with his friends.

Nathan is survived by his parents, Dennis and Jean; and two brothers, Nicholas and Christopher, who live in Maryland. In addition, he is survived by two grandmothers, Mae Babb and Ruby Hott, who both reside in Maryland. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 13, at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown. Pastor Dr. Wade Martin and Pastor Mark Derby officiated over the service.
