WILLIAMSPORT - Oscar Robert Andrews, 87, formerly of Bower Avenue in Williamsport, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Williamsport Nursing Home.

Born Aug. 11, 1921, in Hagerstown near Huyetts, he was the son of the late Robert and Gladys M. (Day) Andrews.

Mr. Andrews worked at Colonial Hardwood Flooring and retired from Beaver Creek Country Club as greenskeeper after 20 years.

Mr. Andrews was a truck driver and mechanic in the Army, and served in the European Theater for three years, from 1943-46. He received many medals and awards during his service.


Mr. Andrews was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Madalyn Virginia Suman Andrews, in 2008; his son, Larry R. Andrews in 2009; his brothers, Paul and James Andrews; and son-in-law, William Derryberry.

He is survived by two daughters, Jo Ann Derryberry of Ridgeley, W.Va., and Tammy S. Lynch and friend, David Baker, of Hagerstown; daughter-in-law, Lois Andrews, widow of son Larry; one brother, John Andrews of Mapleton Depot, Pa.; three grandchildren, Troy W. Derryberry and wife, Missy, of Berkeley Springs W.Va., Jamie T. Derryberry and wife, Cindy, of Fort Ashby, W.Va., and Josh S. Lynch and fiancee, Melissa Yount, of Hagerstown; four great-grandchildren, Bryan T. Derryberry, Jordan N. Derryberry, Trenen W. Derryberry and Payton L. Derryberry; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Ame, Gracie,and Evie; nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Catherine and Beatrice Andrews; and brother-in-law, Bill Suman and wife, Carolyn.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 1 p.m. with Chaplains Cristina Puig-Lugo and Dean Pryor officiating. Interment with military honors accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to service.
