Another barrier broken

July 13, 2009

Congratulations to Hagerstown Attorney Dana Moylan Wright, who will become Washington County's first female judge when she's sworn in as a District Court judge in several weeks.

Gov. Martin O'Malley on July 8 appointed Wright, 43, to succeed Ralph H. France II, who retired in April.

Wright, who has been active in a number of community organizations and a partner in a local law firm, has a well-rounded perspective.

It can't hurt that she brings some deep family roots to the job. Her father, grandfather and an uncle all served as judges. Her father, retired Washington County Circuit Judge Daniel W. Moylan, still is called on occasionally to hear cases.

That background and her experiences as a lawyer no doubt will be a big plus.

The governor has selected a capable and competent person to fill the position.

We wish the new Judge Moylan all the best in her new position.
