CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- A 17-year-old boy has been placed in a detention center by the Franklin County Juvenile Probation Office after he allegedly crashed a stolen 2001 Jeep Cherokee into a parked 2003 Honda CR-V on Interchange Drive Saturday night, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The crash occurred at 6:45 p.m., when the Jeep hit the Honda and a mailbox at 3506 Interchange Drive off Pa. 997 in Greene Township, according to a press release.

The Jeep could not be driven after the crash and the boy ran, the release said.

The 22-year-old owner of the Honda began chasing the boy on foot to Chambersburg Mall, where troopers arrived and apprehended the boy, the release said.

Troopers discovered the Jeep was stolen from the 2400 block of Smoketown Road on Friday, the release said.

The boy has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, hit and run and other charges, the release said.
