TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 77 had a net loss again at its last meeting.

Doris Hose won the Get-R-Done contest with a 2 1/2-pound loss.

Shirley Knode presented the program on "The Challenges of Social Calories."

At the next meeting, members will form small groups and each group will be led in discussion by a KOPS (Keeping Pounds Off Sensibly) member.

Longmeadow Lions install new officers

Past District Gov. David Fisher inducted the following Longmeadow Lions officers for the 2009-10 year at the June 25 meeting:


James W. Staley, president; Carol J. Alphin, first vice president; Donald W. Talbert, secretary; A. Craig Daniels, treasurer; William C. Myers and Ronald E. Reeder, tail twisters; Rodney Timmons, Lion tamer; T. Reed Hardy, membership chair; Carol Ann Alphin and William H. Staley, one-year directors; C. Thomas Bowers and Rod R. Reed, two-year directors; and Carol J. Alphin, immediate past president.

The bulletin editor will be PDG Susan K. Timmons and the preschool vision screening team will consist of Carol Alphin, Reed Hardy, Ron Reeder and Don Talbert.

The July 23 meeting will be the annual club picnic at the Timmonses' home.

Members and guests are reminded to bring a covered dish and lawn chairs.

TOPS 446

TOPS (Taking off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 446 had a net loss at the July 8 meeting.

Janet presented awards. Darlene was named Shining Star. The chapter has two new KOPS, Joann and Betty.

The July 15 program will be presented by Judy H.

The group meets Wednesdays at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road in Hagerstown.

St. Maria Goretti High School news

St. Maria Goretti High School Guidance Director Jay Heefner has retired. He will be missed, perhaps most poignantly by the void where he stood every morning to greet students as they arrived at school. The staff thanks Jay for his efforts and wishes him a happy retirement.

Hagerstown High School Class of 1943

The Hagerstown High School Class of 1943 is planning its class reunion Saturday, Sept. 12, at Fountain Head Country Club.

A buffet lunch is planned.

Morris Frock Post 42 to install officers

Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 will hold installation of officers Friday, July 24, at 6 p.m. All members and their guests of post, unit and SAL are invited to attend.

There will be a complimentary cocktail hour for drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Dinner will be served at 7:15 p.m. The menu includes fruit cup, chicken cordon bleu with white sauce, scalloped potatoes, coleslaw, peas, rolls and butter, tea, coffee and sherbet.

Tickets are on sale at the bar for $8 per person (no refunds). Deadline to buy tickets is Friday.

Class of 1974
