Black Rock Golf Course



Black Rock Golf Course near Hagerstown was rated by Golf Digest Magazine as the best municipal course in Maryland.

The course received 4 1/2 stars out of five in the magazine's rating system.

The magazine defined a municipal course as one owned by a city, town, county or state.

The golf course at Cacapon Resort State Park in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., was rated as the top municipal course in that state.

Hoffman Automotive



Two representatives of Hoffman Automotive recently donated $500 from the sale of the first 2010 Chevrolet Camaro at the dealership to the Humane Society of Washington County.

General Sales Manager Doug Stahl and General Manager/Dealer Jenny Stahl made the donation in honor of their dog, Gus, a bulldog mix that was rescued from Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village



BOONSBORO - A program under way at Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village could lead to a long-term partnership with the Washington County Hospital Wound Center in caring for people with skin and wound issues.

Once a week, a team of health care professionals dedicated to wound care and wound healing meets at Fahrney-Keedy to make rounds among residents. The team considers what strategies might be used to improve the wound-healing process of those residents.

Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village, a continuing care retirement community, serves nearly 200 men and women in independent living, assisted living and long- and short-term nursing care.

Timberland Factory Store



For two days in June, five employees of the Timberland Factory Store at Prime Outlets at Hagerstown volunteered at the Humane Society of Washington County.

The employees removed weeds at the entrance and from flower beds, and worked inside on a variety of tasks.

Participating employees were Andrew Prindle, Theresa Walsh, Shawn Alderton, Angel Robbins and Alexis Cyhanick.

Thompson's Karate Studio



GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Thompson's Karate Studio celebrated its move to a new facility June 19 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house at the new location on U.S. 11 behind Family Dollar.

Thompson's Karate Studio is owned and operated by Herb and Kendra Thompson, who have been in business for more than 19 years.

The business offers brake service, cooling system service, engine diagnostics, oil changes, tire rotation, transmission fluid service, tune-ups, and wheel alignment and front-end repair.
