WASHINGTON COUNTY -- A Washington County man was killed Saturday afternoon after he got tangled in a hay baler in the area of 19900 Blue Heron Lane near Marsh Pike, according to a Washington County Sheriff's Department press release.

Virgil Lamar Hostetter, 34, of 20538 Millers Church Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, Washington County Sheriff's Department Lt. Tom Newton said.

"The sad thing is his 5-year-old boy was up in the cab sleeping," Newton said.

Hostetter's body was found by his wife, Newton said. Authorities believe she was bringing him lunch.

Newton said investigators believe Hostetter was pulled into the baler when he was trying to remove a clump of stuck hay, Newton said.

The accident occurred about 12:45 p.m.

The investigation will remain open pending the final report from the State Medical Examiner's Office, Newton said.
