The Powells

Allan and Joan (Walker) Powell celebrated their 40th anniversary May 24, 2009.

The Powells were married in Ohio by the Rev. Robert Lewis.

Mrs. Powell, a native of Ohio, moved with her three young children to Hagerstown where the couple made their home.

Mr. Powell retired in 1992 from what was formerly Hagerstown Junior College and was named professor emeritus, having taught philosophy and sociology for 33 years. He also served eight years with Washington County public schools.

Between them, Mr. and Mrs. Powell have five children plus one deceased child; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Whittingtons

Tim and Jodi Whittington of Hagerstown celebrated their 25th anniversary Saturday, June 6, 2009, with a surprise dinner at The Country Inn and Suites in Hagerstown, where they were escorted by their son, Timmy Whittington II. The event was hosted by their family: parents Bill and Susan Whittington; son, Timmy; daughter Jeanna and her boyfriend Justin Grove; brother, Bill and his girlfriend Kena; and brother Mike Whittington and his wife Linda.


More than 100 friends and family members attended the celebration. A slideshow presented by their daughter and her boyfriend was shown, while Paige Wade sang. A dinner was provided by Always Ron's.

Pastor Paul Harne officiated at a renewal of their wedding vows while the attending wedding party participated.

The Whittingtons were married June 30, 1984, at First Brethren Church by Pastor Harold Barnett of Hagerstown.

Mrs. Whittington is the daughter of Roland E. Christopher of Boonsboro, and the late M. Jean McCollam Christopher. She is self-employed as a hair stylist and is owner of Simply Stunning Hair Studio LLC.

Mr. Whittington is the son of Bill and Susan Whittington of Hagerstown. He is employed at The Masters Woodshop Inc., of Hagerstown and is also the co-owner of Simply Stunning Hair Studio LLC.
