Going to the dogs picnic

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherdstown Has Gone to the Dogs family picnic will feature music, prizes and a chance to show off your dog. Lunch includes hot dogs, chips, drinks, cookies and dog treats. Meet Charlotte the Wonder Dog and her owner, author D.C. Gallant.

The event will be from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 12, Morgan's Grove Park, W.Va. 480. $10; $5, children younger than 10. Proceeds will benefit Shepherdstown Visitors Center.

Tickets are $10; $5 for ages 10 and younger.

Activities include a dog-photo contest, an obstacle course for dogs and a story circle in which people can tell tales about their dogs.

EMMITSBURG, Md. -An open house will be at Mother Seton School, 100 Creamery Road, from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, and from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 15.

Maryland Dairy Princess coronation set

FREDERICK, Md. -The Maryland Dairy Princess Association will hold the 48th annual dairy princess coronation Wednesday, July 15, at the Francis Scott Key Holiday Inn in Frederick.

A reception begins at 7 p.m. followed by a pageant at 7:30. Four regional princesses will be vying for the state title, competing in onstage interviews, creative skit presentations and radio spot announcements.

Storytime Adventures at the mall

Washington County Free Library staff will lead children's activities from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays from July 16 through Aug. 13 as a part of their Storytime Adventures in Macy's Court.

Library staff will read books and poems, sing songs and lead finger plays and crafts.

Children's carnival

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Fellowship Baptist Church of Middletown will hold a children's carnival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at Memorial Park on South Church Street.

This event has free carnival games, food, a Moonbounce, pony rides and displays.

School supplies donated for local needy students will be accepted for Community Agency School Services, for later distribution to Frederick County schools.
