Frank Edward Bishop Jr., 85, of 1619 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, Md., died on Wednesday, July 08, 2009, at Western Maryland Hospital.

Born May 22, 1924, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Frank Edward Bishop Sr. and Naomi Virginia Wachter Bishop.

He was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Bronze Star.

He retired from Western Maryland Supply.

He was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of the Funkstown American Legion, Post 211; and lifetime member of the Greencastle Sportsman's Club. He was an avid golfer and outdoor sportsman.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Jane Day Bishop; one daughter, Yvonne Marie Carbaugh of Hagerstown; two sons, Frank Edward Bishop III of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Michael Duane Bishop of Santa Fe, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Oscar Bishop.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Dr. Renee Mackey will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Graveside military honors will be conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
