HAGERSTOWN -- Clyde D. Tucker of Hagerstown and formerly of Arlington, Va., passed away July 4, 2009, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born Nov. 15, 1922, in Barre, Vt., he was the son of the late William and Florence (Eastman) Tucker.

Clyde served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

After the service, he owned and operated Tucker's Sunoco Service in Arlington for nine years before returning to work for the federal government, retiring in 1983 from the National Institutes of Standards and Technology.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean O. Tucker; and a son, Thomas Tucker.

Clyde is survived by three sons, Frank and wife, Jan, of Richardson, Texas, James and wife, Leona, of Smithsburg, Md., and Jerry and wife, Fran, of Herndon, Va.; one daughter, Diane, and husband, Dan Doolittle, of Arlington; and daughter-in-law, Ursula Tucker of Lubbock, Texas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Clyde is survived by brothers, Kenneth of Barre, Roland of Burlington, Vt., and Cecil "Pete" and wife, Arline, of Graniteville Vt.; sisters, Marjorie and husband, Thelbert Brown, of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Lorraine Burns of Winooski, Vt., and Joyce and husband, William Carr, of Cherry Hill, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.


A celebration of Clyde's life will be held Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Village of Robinwood Assisted Living Home at 19800 Tranquility Circle, Hagerstown, in the Robinwood room at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vt., on July 27, at 10 a.m.

Memorial donations may be directed to Community United Methodist Church, 1701 N. Bryan St., Arlington, VA 22201; or to the Village of Robinwood Assisted Living, 19800 Tranquility Circle, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Local arrangements are by J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
