July 07, 2009

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A 33-year-old man who died Monday from head injuries he received in a bicycle accident on Saturday was identified by police as William Franklin Waldron Jr. of Martinsburg.

Ranson (W.Va.) Police Department Investigator T.R. McBride said the 8:44 p.m. accident happened in the backyard of a home in the 500 block of 11th Avenue during a large holiday celebration.

Waldron landed face first in a grassy area in the backyard of the residence after he attempted to jump a small wooden ramp on a bike, McBride said.

The bike came down on the front wheel and Waldron went over the handlebars, McBride said.

Waldron was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson and then flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., McBride said.
