WILLIAMSPORT - Evans William Young, 89, of Williamsport, a resident of Charlotte's Home, Maugansville, Md., died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md.

Born March 9, 1920, in Beaver Creek, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Barnett and Harriet Susan Ludy Young.

He was a 1939 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

Evans served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aviation metalsmith 2 class, onboard the aircraft carrier USS Lexington, in battles for control of the Pacific Theater. He later retired from Fairchild Aircraft of Hagerstown with 38 years of service.


He was a member of Post 297 American Legion, Baltimore, Md., and a 60-year member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 694 of Hagerstown.

He is survived by one sister, Mae A. Timmons of Clear Spring, Md.; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Goldie Rowland, Sadie Shoemaker and Helen Young; and three brothers, Amos Young, Charles Young and Johnny Young.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 8, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Wednesday for the convenience of family and friends.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 9, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport with Chaplain Kitty Lippy officiating. Military graveside services will be provided by Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, Hagerstown.
