Robert L. Gaskins, 57, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at his home in Hagerstown.

Born Dec. 24, 1951, in Bristow, Va., he was the son of Mary Lee (Robinson) Gaskins of Manassas, Va., and John Edward Gaskins of Culpeper, Va.

He was the husband of 13 years to Cynthia T. Gaskins, whom he married May 25, 1996.

Robert graduated from Osbourn High School in the class of 1970. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force.

Robert was employed by Duvinage LLC of Hagerstown for the past two years.

He was a member of Ebenezer AME Church, Hagerstown.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by two children, Robert L. Gaskins Jr. of Savannah, Ga., and Robin Coates of Woodbridge, Va.; two stepchildren, Crystal Frazier and Michelle Woods, both of Hagerstown; one brother, James E. Gaskins of Harrisonburg, Va.; four sisters, Mary Ella Wolfson of Warrenton, Va., and Joann Gaskins, Debbie Barlow and Peggy Vraber, all of Manassas; and one grandson, Brooks R. Gaskins of Savannah.


Robert was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Gaskins.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Zion Baptist Church, Hagerstown. His pastor, the Rev. Leroy Jackson, will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Gardens, Hagerstown. Full military honors shall be accorded by AMVETS Post 10 and the Marine Corps League Bulldog Detachment, Hagerstown.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer AME Church, 40 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown, MD 21740; or to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

The Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Bryan K. Kenworthy P.A., 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
