Medication Assistance Center benefits from photography contest

July 06, 2009

During health system employee appreciation week, June 15 to 19, Washington County Health System employees had the opportunity to show off their best photos while raising money to support the Medication Assistance Center.

The "Give Us Your Best Shot" photo contest showcased 185 photo entries that were voted on to determine a People's Choice winner in three categories: landscape, children and pets.

Employees donated $3 per photo entry and $1 per vote to support MAC, a nonprofit partner of the hospital that provides free medications to low income or chronically ill patients in Washington County. At the end of the contest, two members of the Valley Art Association, Bob Wantz and Janie Moltrup, selected the Critic's Choice winners in each category and the Best in Show winner.

The People's Choice and Critic's Choice winners and the Best in Show winner were presented framed copies of their print. A check for $1,000 was presented to MAC.

Sid Gale, who oversees operations of MAC, and Audrey Miller, supervisor, accepted the donation. "We try to operate with the slimmest possible costs so that all of our efforts can benefit people in the community," Gale said. "Every dollar that is donated is very much appreciated."
