Man charged with punching another during basketball game

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- An 18-year-old man was charged Wednesday after allegedly punching a 21-year-old man in the face during a basketball game at the Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center, according to a Martinsburg Police Department press release.

Lance Washington of 109 Autumn Leaf Drive, was charged with one count of unlawful wounding after punching the victim while he wasn't looking, causing a "severe facial injury," police said.

The punch was thrown after a foul was called on Washington in apparent retaliation while the victim was attempting to shoot the basketball, police said.

The victim was taken to City Hospital in Martinsburg for treatment.

Police responded to the recreation center off Woodbury Avenue at 2:05 p.m.

PSP cites driver for driving under suspension during traffic check

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police stopped 89 vehicles Tuesday during a traffic check on South Mountain Road, according to a state police press release.


Fifteen warning notices were issued for vehicle-code violations and one driver was cited for driving under suspension, troopers said.

Pa. firefighter's turnout gear stolen

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. -- A firefighter's turnout gear was stolen from the McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co. fire hall, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

The gear was valued at $1,000, police said.
