Owners of Benny's Pub ask to transfer liquor license

The owners of Benny's Pub on Eastern Boulevard in Hagerstown told Washington County liquor officials on Wednesday they would like to move to a larger space.

Bill and Debbie Skomski asked the Board of License Commissioners for Washington County, known as the liquor board, to consider letting them transfer their liquor license.

The Skomskis said they would like to move from 61 Eastern Blvd. to 53 Eastern Blvd., which is a few spaces down in the Centre at Antietam Creek shopping center.

Bill Skomski said the new address would offer more storage space and about double the seating capacity.

"We're trying to get 100 seats," Skomski said.

If everything goes as planned, Benny's Pub would move in about six months, Skomski said.

Jen Hare, a Hager Hall manager, told the Board of License Commissioners for Washington County, known as the liquor board, the fundraiser, to be held Aug. 23, would feature bands. The bands would perform no later than 9 p.m., she said.

Documents that Hare provided to the liquor board said the event would be fenced in, and identifications would be checked to prevent alcohol sales to underage people.
