Battle of Funkstown is back in town this year

Be sure to keep your calendar open for the weekend of July 11.

The Civil War re-enactment is back.

We so missed the event last year and are anticipating the return of the Battle of Funkstown.

There will be the usual battle in the street on Saturday morning and more skirmishes in the park later in the day. The camp in the park will be open for visitors Saturday and again on Sunday morning.

Don't forget to feed the troops early Saturday morning before the first street battle.

If you desire to share with the men in blue and gray, simply tie a red ribbon to your porch and they will know that you are a house that is going to share fruit and other easy-to-carry rations.

Bring the children and relive local history in Funkstown.

Movie night

If you are looking for something fun and free to do with your family, the Washington County Free Library is the place to be. On Fridays, beginning at dusk, the side parking lot of the library will be turned into a theater. Just bring your lawn chairs and free popcorn will even be avaiable.

A big thank you to the City of Hagerstown for helping to sponsor this wonderful event.

Rabies clinics

With so much going on, we must not forget to get fluffy and fido's rabies vaccinations. The Humane Society of Washington County will hold rabies clinics July 18, Aug. 8 and Sept. 19.

Please visit the Humane Society's Web page at for all the details.
