James Richard "Jim" Long, 78, 17600 College Road, Hagerstown, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, at his home.
Jim was born in Hagerstown on July 26, 1930, the son of the late Chester Arthur and Ethel May Rodgers Long.
Jim graduated from Hagerstown High School in the class of 1948.
Jim served in the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force.
He was employed as a mechanical engineer until his retirement in 1992.
Jim was a member of Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, Cearfoss.
Jim was a member of Potomac Post 202 American Legion in Williamsport and AARP.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Ann Elgin Long, whom he married Jan. 3, 1952; two sons, Steven K. Long and his wife, Linda, of New Oxford, Pa., and David L. Long and his wife, Chrisie, of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Tommy Mellinger, Amber Mellinger, Josh Long, Ben Long and his wife, Tylee, Steph Long, Jason Long and his fiance, Kate Mayhue, T.J. Socks and Jessica Long; and a great-granddaughter, Madison Mellinger.
