Rotary Foundation donates more than $49,000 to groups

June 30, 2009

The Hagerstown Rotary Club Charitable Foundation has distributed more than $49,000 to more than 40 Washington County charities, nonprofits and foundations.

Rotary distributes the money each year after it conducts its three major fundraisers: the 2-for-1 Value Book, Bull and Oyster Roast and the Rotary Golf Tournament.

Tim Wilson, Rotary Foundation vice president, presented the awards during a lunch meeting June 10. The funds are earmarked for capital building projects.

Rotary distributed about $42,000 to 44 agencies. It also contributed $4,000 to Hagerstown Community College for the use of its ARCC for the Bull and Oyster Roast, and another $3,000 to the Hagerstown Rotary Club to help fund the annual dictionary giveaway to elementary school students in Washington County.
