Worker's leg crushed in road milling accident

June 30, 2009

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say a man was seriously injured when his leg was run over by a road milling machine near Frederick.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on the ramp from eastbound U.S. 340 onto eastbound Interstate 70.

Police say 40-year-old John Evans, the job foreman, was trying to line up the milling machine for milling to begin and walked in front of the machine. That's when police say Evans tripped and fell.

Police say the operator of the milling machine didn't see Evans fall and ran over his right leg.

Evans was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with massive crush injuries to his leg. The Maryland Department of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the accident.
