Area Roundup -- Conococheague rolls past American

Conococheague rolled to a second straight victory to open the Maryland District 1 9-10 Tournament on Saturday.

On the heels of a Friday blowout, Conococheague came back and steamed past American 16-0 as Levi Taylor threw four shutout innings and struck out seven.

Zack Carpenter had a pair of hits, including a two-run home run for Conococheague and teammates Isaac Schlotterbeck and Caden Keplinger each had two hits.

Conococheague hosts Halfway on Tuesday at 6 p.m. American plays at West End on Monday at 6.

National 12, Federal 5

National won its second game as it ruined Federal's tournament debut.

Mitchell Wilson and McCoy Dutrow banged out three hits apiece for National, which will host Hancock on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Sawyer Racher had two hits, including a home run, and Colton Repp and Lindsey Bedregal each had two hits.


Federal plays at South Mountain on Monday at 6.


Williamsport 14-8, Urbana 3-4

URBANA, Md. -- Tyler Walsh led Williamsport with three hits, including a home run, along with five RBIs in the first game. Seth Poffenberger added three hits and drove in four runs for the Nationals (6-6, 5-6).

John Shobe homered in the fifth inning of the second game and Josh Green had two hits for Williamsport.

Thurmont 8-16, Funkstown 5-3

Funkstown Post 211 dropped a doubleheader to Thurmont in the Western Maryland matchup on Saturday.

Tyeler Presgraves homered and Aaron Stoner and Brandon Knight each had two hits in the first game. Tim Leather drove in two runs.

Tim Jacobson had two hits, including a home run, and Luke Toms had a pair of hits in the nightcap for Funkstown (7-6, 6-5).

Gaithersburg 10-7, Williamsport Senators 0-11

Brad Banzhoff led the Senators in the second game win with four hits. Logan Jamison had three hits and Jason Hammond had two hits, including a home run.


Georgia 12, Maryland 4

NORMAN, Okla. -- Team Maryland ran out of pitching after two games Friday and issued 12 walks on the way to a loss to Georgia in its final game of the Sunbelt Classic on Saturday.

Team Maryland finished third in the Classic with a 5-3 record. Robby Harris, of Cardinal Gibbons, had a two-run home run. North Carroll's Casey Mann was named to the all-tournament team. He had two grandslams and a bases-loaded triple in the Classic.
