Boonsboro Historical Society plans event

The Boonsboro Historical Society will hold a special event Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Bowman House, 323 N. Main St., Boonsboro.

Denny Warrenfeltz will give an open hearth cooking demonstration of an Early American Fourth of July picnic, featuring chicken, summer garden vegetables, berry pudding and cornbread.

House tours will be conducted by Hank Livelsberger. Allison Severance will give pottery-making demonstrations.

All are encouraged to attend this free event, which is sponsored by the Boonsboro Historical Society.

Special Olympics bowling league holds banquet

The Special Olympics tenpin bowling league held its 14th annual banquet June 11 at the Potomac Fish and Game Club.


Awards were presented to all coaches and athletes.

Downsville club member Truman Tolley and his team won first place.

Dennis Barthlow presented Washington County group representative Marva Davis with a check for $1,575 from the Pleasant Valley, Rohrersville, Maugansville, Wilson, Downsville, Leitersburg, District 12, Keedysville and Ringgold Ruritan clubs, as well as Fort Frederick.

Ruritan has also begun a campaign called Abes for Athletes. The goal is to raise one million pennies (Abraham Lincoln pennies) in containers placed at local businesses throughout the county. Donations can also be sent to Dennis Barthlow at 6212 Coffman Farms Road, Keedysville, MD 21756.

Fire Co. to hold dinner Saturday, July 25

The Potomac Valley Fire Co. will hold a roast beef dinner Saturday, July 25, at the fire hall in Dargan.

The menu will include roast beef, Arnold's homemade mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, rolls and butter, desert and iced tea.

Tickets cost $10.

Sharpsburg Lions install new officers

The Sharpsburg Lions Club installed the following officers at its June 18 meeting: Wade Moore, president; Betty Myers, first vice president; Judy Moore, second vice president; Aldeth Moore, secretary; Darlene Eichelberger, assistant secretary; Donna DeLauney, treasurer; Roger Moore, tailtwister; and Curtis Beasley, Lion tamer.

Directors for two years - Thomas Jefts and Robert Higman; directors for one year - Rodger Lohman and Nancy Kefauver.

The Sharpsburg Lions Club meets the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Lions Den at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 209 W. Main St., Sharpsburg.
