Free movies planned for summer

Tired of paying $10 to see a movie?

Then check out the Bridge of Life Church in downtown Hagerstown. The church invites the community to visit for free movies, free popcorn and free sodas every other Saturday night.

The movies will be shown on a big projection screen with surround sound, starting Saturday.

Movie showings are every other Saturday night at 7 p.m.

The church is at the site of the former Colonial Theatre at 14 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown.

Movie schedule:

o June 27 - "Transformers," 7 p.m.

o July 11 - "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," 7 p.m.

o July 25 - "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," 7 p.m.

o Aug. 8 - "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King," 7 p.m.


o Aug. 22 - "A Knight's Tale," 7 p.m.

o Sept. 5 - "Marley & Me," 7 p.m.

o Sept. 19 - "The Italian Job," 7 p.m.

Health care picnic to be held Saturday

A free health care picnic will be held Saturday at Hagerstown's City Park in the west pavilion.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. and will offer participants a chance to share their health-care story. Free blood pressure and health-care information will be provided. Information about the Health Care Reform Package will be available.

Don't forget these three events happening this weekend:

o Health fair

Greater Campher Temple, 125 W. Bethel St., will host a health fair Saturday at 11 a.m.

The fair will include blood pressure screenings and other activities.

o Book club

The SIS Book Club meeting will be Sunday at 3 p.m. The book review will be on the book titled "The Black Girl Next Door" by Jennifer Baszili.

o Ministry fair

John Wesley United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream social and ministry fair Sunday at 11 a.m., following the 10 a.m. worship service.

This will be an opportunity to enjoy ice cream and fellowship as well as learn more about the many activities and ministries at the church.

The public is invited.
