Dewey Louis (Himmy) Morehead Jr., 68, of 906 Lanvale St. in Hagerstown, Md., died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 20, 1941, in Herndon, Va., he was the son of the late Dewey Louis Morehead Sr. and Laura Rossella Cockrill Morehead.

He graduated in 1961 from James Madison High School.

He joined the Merchant Marines in 1961, serving on the S.S. America Voyage.

He was employed as a mason by John Crist Contracting Co. in Virginia, was manager with Jon Dean of Oxxon Inc. in Virginia, and was a driver for the Washington County Commission on Aging for seven years, retiring in 2007.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Minnie (Judy) Morehead; two daughters, Renee Mullin of Cuddick, N.C., and Casandra Clatterbuck of Front Royal, Va.; one son, Hunter Morehead of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; two sisters, Sharon Thompson of Vienna, Va., and Rosella G. Morehead of Annandale, Va.; three stepdaughters, Katherine Marie Mikolajczyk of Hagerstown, Mary Ann Lynch of Williamsport, Md., and Debra Kay Lynch of Hagerstown; one stepson, Robert A. Lynch of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one stepgreat-grandson.

Memorial services will be Saturday at noon at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Erik J. Peel will officiate. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers, and memorial donations may be made to John R. Marsh Cancer Center, 11110 Medical Campus Road, Suite 129, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers and physicians at Washington County Hospital, and a special thank you to Dr. Karl P. Riggle.
