Around Funkstown

Finally, some sun

I just heard that out of the first 22 days in June, we had 19 days with rain. All I can say is, "boy, don't our gardens look great." Now it's time to head to the pool and soak up some of this much needed sunshine and start enjoying the outdoors.

VBS in full swing

The town is busy this week with Vacation Bible school in full swing at St. Paul's and very shortly the church will be welcoming its new pastor.

The St. Paul's Lutheran Church congregation voted unanimously to ask Pastor Michael Louia to accept the call to lead the church.

The church is doing a quick but necessary renovation to the parsonage and the pastor and his wife, Nancy, will be moving in in early July. A very heartfelt welcome to Pastor Louia and Nancy. May you find Funkstown as charming and warm as we know it can be.

School may be out for the summer, but reunions are on the minds of many.

South Hagerstown High School classes of 1959 and 1974 are getting things in motion for their 50th and 35th class reunions, respectively.

The class of '59 will hold its reunion Saturday, Sept 26, at the Elks Lodge in Hagerstown. A social hour will begin at 5 p.m. with dinner following at 6. Following dinner, there will be a dance from 8:30 to 10.

Several classmates have not yet been found. If you are a member of the class of '59 and have not heard from the reunion committee, contact Donna Smith at 301-797-8761.

Moving ahead 15 years to the class of '74, that reunion is planned Saturday, Aug. 15. at Beaver Creek Country Club. An informal social is planned Friday, Aug. 14, at the 10th Inning Tavern in Funkstown.

The Saturday reunion will be an indoor barbecue at the country club. Tickets cost $30 per person.

A bonus five-day Bermuda cruise is set for Oct. 31.
