The Lippys

Kitty and Wayne Lippy of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 13, 2009, with a family dinner at Western Sizzlin Steak House in Hagerstown. Their daughter, Janice Stewart, created an anniversary cake, and their granddaughter-in-law, Julie Stewart, made flowers and decorations for the event. The Lippys also have a son, Todd Lippy of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The Lippys were married June 14, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church by Dr. Wilson P. Ard, now deceased.

Mrs. Lippy is the former Kitty Day, a 1959 graduate of North Hagerstown High School. She is a staff chaplain at Washington County Hospital.

Mr. Lippy graduated in 1956 from Hagerstown High School and was employed by Western Maryland Railway and Washington County Hospital.

The Greenes

Guy and Janice Greene of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 31, 2009, with a family dinner at Hickory Bridge Restaurant in Fairfield, Pa.


The Greenes were married on May 29, 1959, at the Antietam Church of God by the Rev. Harold Beck, now deceased.

The Greenes have three children, Tammy Meyers and husband Steve of Greencastle, Pa.; Penny Kline and husband Bobby of Hagerstown, and Todd and wife Julie of Williamsport. They have eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Mr. Greene retired from Allegheny Power, Washington County Board of Education and Maryland National Guard. Mrs. Greene is a homemaker.

The Shoemakers

Ernie and Doris Shoemaker of Dargan celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on May 17, 2009, with a surprise party at Potomac Valley Fire Company given by their children and families.

The Shoemakers have five children, Wanda Poffenberger, Timothy Gay, Donald Gay, Tina Grimm and Ernie Shoemaker Jr.

The Shoemakers were married by the Rev. Upton on May 17, 1969, at the Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville.

Mrs. Shoemaker is the former Doris Knight of Dargan. She is retired from Staples Distribution Center in Hagerstown.

Mr. Shoemaker is employed as a clerk by Washington County Landfill.

They have six grandchildren and and three great-grandchildren.
