June 19, 2009

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- The first court appearance for the man charged in the kidnapping and death of Katherine Nicole Sharp has been rescheduled for June 25 at 11:30 a.m. in Berkeley County Magistrate Court.

Donald B. Surber Jr., 37, of Winchester, Va., is accused of stabbing Sharp, 35, of 10 Raider Lane in Martinsburg, while holding her against her will earlier this week.

The warrant charging Surber with first-degree murder alleges the crime was committed Sunday, but the standoff with police at the three-bedroom home in the Ridgefield subdivision west of Martinsburg did not end until Monday afternoon, according to magistrate court records.

Services for Sharp, a Jefferson High School graduate and native of Waynesboro, Pa., will be at 1 p.m. today at South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood, W.Va.
