Truck carrying asphalt crashes

PETERS TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A tanker truck and trailer carrying 5,000 gallons of liquid asphalt crashed Wednesday morning on the 10000 block of Richmond Road, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

Some of the asphalt spilled onto the road, police said.

Several utility poles were severed in the accident, knocking down power lines in the area, the release said.

The accident was reported at 2:28 a.m. Wednesday, the release said.

Troopers found a tanker truck and trailer operated by Timothy Bryan Roles, 44, of Fayetteville, Pa., lying on its side.

A hazmat team and representatives of PennDOT, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Valley Rural Electric Co. assisted at the scene, the release said.

Roles was taken to Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital for treatment of his injuries, the release said.
