Volunteers sought

The Washington County Commission on Aging is recruiting residents to serve as volunteers in local elementary schools.

The agency's volunteer program, known as RSVP, is recruiting those 55 and older who are willing to help a child improve in math and reading.

Volunteers choose the school, time of day and day of the week that they would like to serve.

Initially, new volunteers are accompanied by an RSVP staff member who paves the way to eventually assisting a child in the classroom.

Volunteers qualify for insurance coverage and reimbursement for travel and meals while gaining recognition as a valuable member of the community.

To register, call Charlotte R. Levens, intergenerational program coordinator at 240-313-9139 or e-mail, or call Hannah Cramer, deputy director, at 301-790-0275.
