BOONSBORO -- Mrs. Bertha Louise (Law) Clever, 90, a resident of Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home, Boonsboro, Md., formerly of 36 N. Allison St., Greencastle, Pa., died at 7:45 a.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at the nursing home. She had been in failing health for the last year and a half, and critically ill for the last three months.

Born Jan. 15, 1919, in Greensburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late John W. Law and Rosa S. (Kindle) Law Mortz.

Mrs. Clever attended Greensburg schools and spent her early years in Greensburg.

She and her husband, Charles Edward Clever, were married Sept. 19, 1936, in Hagerstown, Md. She was a longtime resident of the Greencastle area. Mr. Clever died Aug. 5, 1971.


Mrs. Clever was employed in the boot department of Waynesboro Shoe Factory and later as a machine operator at Waynesboro Knitting Co.

She attended First Assembly of God Church, Greencastle.

Mrs. Clever is survived by two daughters, Shirley Helman, Waynesboro, Pa., and Doris Mooney, Pensacola, Fla.; a son, Keith Clever, Clear Spring, Md.; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and helped to raise Lynette (Spangler) Alger.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Faye Christman; son, Carl Clever; six sisters, Mary Gift, Gladys Sanbower, Laura West Lohman, Dorothy Fox, Charlotte Collins and Phyllis Kuhn; and an infant brother, Merle Law.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, with the Rev. Darrel Hogue officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
