MCTC fire probe continues

June 17, 2009

A deputy state fire marshal Wednesday continued to investigate a Tuesday fire inside a cell at the Maryland Correctional Training Center south of Hagerstown.

The fire was reported Tuesday at 12:45 a.m., according to a press release from the fire marshal.

Correctional officers discovered the fire, which caused about $250 in damage to property inside the cell, the fire marshal said.

An inmate who was inside the cell at the time of the fire was treated at the prison infirmary for smoke inhalation, the fire marshal said. No one else was injured.

Mattress stuffing and toilet paper was used to set the fire, the fire marshal said.
