Carmen Jean Fix, 77

EDEN, N.C. -- Carmen Jean Fix died peacefully on June 13, 2009.

Carmen was born May 29, 1932, to Grace and Franklin Schindel in Hagerstown, Md.

She graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with her master's in social work and retired from Southern Virginia Health Institute.

Carmen was deeply involved in the church at the Church of the Epiphany in Eden, where she was a lay eucharistic minister, a choir member, ECW member and served several terms as senior warden. She was a lay warden and delegate to the Episcopal Convention for the North Carolina Diocese.

In addition to her husband, Preston T. Fix, Carmen is survived by brothers, Tim Schindel and Odell Diethrich; children, Steve Maginnis, Gary Maginnis, Terry Maginnis, Teresa Hogancamp, Anne Sherwood, Tom Fix, Frank Fix, Margaret Williams and John Fix; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Mary Susan Maginnis and Jean Marie Kline; and son, James Patrick Maginnis.

Funeral services will be performed at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the Church of the Epiphany, 538 Henry St., Eden NC 27288.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Columbarium Fund at the Church of the Epiphany, 538 Henry St., Eden NC 27288.
