BOONSBORO - Arthur Franklin Bayer, 89, of Mapleville Road, Boonsboro, and formerly of Barkdoll Road, Ringgold, Md., died at Washington County Hospital Sunday, June 14, 2009, on his 89th birthday following an extended illness.
He was born June 14, 1920, in Edgemont, Md., the son of the late Ira F. and Mary (Benedict) Bayer.
He retired from Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro, Pa.
He and his wife would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary June 18, 2009.
Following his retirement, he turned a beloved hobby of chair caning into a business and ran A&F Chairs until 2004. He attended many craft shows and was well-known for his extraordinary chair-caning skills. He also taught caning classes at Hagerstown Community College and James Rumsey Technical Institute in Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was a member and former elder at Ringgold Church of Christ, charter member of Ringgold Ruritan Club, former zone and district governor of Potomac District, member of the Sunshine Leisure Club, former secretary-treasurer of the Ringgold Cemetery, and he also took great pride in being caretaker for the Ringgold Cemetery.
