Mail Call

June 16, 2009

"The reason we have feral cats is because of irresponsible pet owners who will not get their cats spayed and neutered. Feral cats have no choice but to eat what nature provides. It's not like they can go into a kitchen cupboard and open themselves a can of cat food. Feral cats have no loving owners. They are homeless, just waiting to be found and turned into someone's pet." - Waynesboro, Pa.

"To the person in Hagerstown who wants to know if the SPCA ever checks on the young guys that are walking the pit bulls and other dogs that don't have any tags on them, some of them pregnant, and all that. Why don't they call the SPCA instead of Mail Call, and tell them where these guys are at so they can go check it out?" - Williamsport

"There's a block party on East Avenue every night, with no permit. Keeps the police busy." - Hagerstown

"If everything under Obama is supposed to be getting better, why are religious symbols, including the cross and the Bible, being stripped from some veterans hospitals? And here's another good one. Employees of Fortune 500 companies have been fired for quoting the Scriptures, and have been told that displaying family pictures in their cubicles could be offensive to homosexual employees. Come on, America, let's get a hold of ourselves." - Hagerstown

"I don't feel it's right for supervisors that are in charge at a company or at an employer to let certain people get away with anything in the workplace. I mean, they say if you have a problem ... go to your supervisor or to HR, but when you do go to those people with a problem, they turn it around to make you out to be the bad guy or the bad person, which I don't feel is right. I mean, supervisors should take care of the problem." - Greencastle, Pa.

"All the talk about going green, and I see an increase in trash thrown out along the highway. This needs to be addressed like it was in the past. Perhaps community hours could be spent picking up trash." - Hagerstown

"I'd like to reply to the caller from Hagerstown that said that you should look at women from the inside, more so than from the outside. To a certain point, that's true, but to really get the full picture, you need to judge her from the neck up, and not the neck down." - Hagerstown

"I have to agree with the person about you have to watch who you deal with in business, especially with heating and air conditioning. My central air conditioning was installed in 1970. Twenty years ago, it quit working. I had a person come out, they told me, oh, the compressor had failed, that I would have to spend thousands of dollars to replace the whole system. Called another technician, it was $65 for a switch. Guess what, this is 2009, and that air conditioner was put in in 1970, and it's humming right along, and I haven't had it serviced in 10 years." - Hagerstown

"I would just like to say how much I enjoy the writings of Frances Moats in the letters to the editor. According to her writing, she must be quite a wonderful person and I hope she continues submitting her thoughts to The Herald-Mail." - Hagerstown

"The state police have got to do something about people not yielding, coming out onto the interstates. I'm on Interstate 70, and the traffic in the right lane actually came to a complete stop because somebody was coming out, didn't yield and coming out on into traffic, and I thought the person behind me was gonna slam right into the backside of my car. So that's a fatality waiting to happen." - Clear Spring

"I just want to say thanks to the inconsiderate (person) who let their child, or the adult who stole my son's sunglasses at the yard sale over the weekend. Not very much appreciated. If you wanted the sunglasses that bad, you should have paid for them. That's not a very nice trait to teach your children." - Maugansville

"I lived here in Hagerstown for many years now, and there used to be plenty of loose, feral cats in the neighborhood. Well, finally, after calling the neighbors, letting them know about keeping their pets inside, I bought a humane trap. I trapped a bunch of them, took them back to the neighbors. Well, once again, they'd let them run loose. So now, since I've turned them all in to the SPCA, whether the neighbors have gotten their cats back or not, that's their ... I trapped them humanely and then took them to the humane society - which I didn't really like to do, but they were killing my trees, my shrubs and my flowers." - Hagerstown

"If the city is going to make the homeowners responsible for paying for repair or replacement of the sidewalks and curbs that abut their property, plus snow removal in the wintertime, then that sidewalk should belong to that home/property owner, period." - Hagerstown

"We know that - around the world, we all knew that that election in Iran was gonna be rigged from the very start, and I don't blame those people for rioting, because they expected something they didn't get, and it's something they're never gonna get." - Falling Waters, W.Va.
