June 15, 2009

Several sophomore students from Washington County Public Schools attended the Hugh O'Brian Leadership Conference at Mount St. Mary's College May 22 to 24.

Alexandra Turano represented South Hagerstown High School and was chosen from more than 250 student ambassadors at the state conference to be an alternate ambassador to the World Leadership Council conference in Washington, D.C., in August. Alexandra will also attend next year's state event as an alumnus, helping with planning and organization, and supporting the 10th-grade students in attendance.

Other students attending the conference were Megan Micco from Clear Spring High School; Josie Sornson from Hancock Middle/Senior High School; Steven Wang and Corrina Ricker from North Hagerstown High; and Connor Arnone from Williamsport High School.

Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership was founded in 1958 to inspire and promote youth leadership, volunteerism and service around the world.

Students participate in unique leadership training, service learning and motivation-building experiences. HOBY alumni now number more than 355,000.
